Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Hair Removal
Hair in unwanted places can not only be a nuisance physically, but it can knock your self-esteem. Hair removal is a commonplace factor of many people’s beauty regimes, but traditional methods available in the market, such as creams, waxing and shaving are not only temporary fixes, but can also be quite painful, laborious and foul-smelling. IPL Hair removal is a fast, relatively pain-free solution which gives longer-lasting results, compared to other methods.
What is IPL Hair Removal?

- Neck
- Chest and back
- Under arm
- Bikini lines

How many sessions will I need?
As a guideline, we suggest patients have 6-8 sessions. When treating the face, it is advisable that patients come to the clinic every 2-4 weeks. Not only will consistent treatments provide better results in the long term, it will also allow for the hairs to be treated in the best stage of growth. It is best to avoid having IPL treatment directly before or after exposure to the sun, as this can significantly increase your susceptibility to burning.
Who is suitable for IPL Hair Removal?
Hair density, color and skin types are all factors that our doctors take into consideration when providing IPL treatment. A full assessment is made on what parameters are used, what machine is used, and you will be given a realistic plan for what results you will see, and when to see them. IPL treatment it not advisable for those who are pregnant or breast feeding. While there is no clinical proof that it puts the baby or mother at risk, we always like to steer towards safety. Equally, if you have had IPL treatment in the past and have fallen pregnant, it is important to note that hair growth may be triggered, due to hormonal imbalance. However, the majority of the hairs will be permanently removed. IPL Hair Removal is a global procedure, but it’s not just for the ladies – the amount of men we see requesting this procedure is on the increase.
Male IPL Hair Removal
Here at Starlight Clinic our male patients usually seek hair removal for unwanted hair on the chest, back abdomen, and manzilian area. All shapes and sizes come through the door for male IPL hair removal. It is such a satisfying cosmetic procedure for us to do. At Starlight Clinic we appreciate a man’s need for no nonsense, safe treatment, for that reason we are proud to announce that while other IPL hair removal machines may provide the same result over time; the machines we have at Starlight Clinic can deliver results much faster and safer.
Is there any downtime?
Straight away after treatment, it is possible the area might be a little red and slightly sensitive. This will subside after a few hours though, and it certainly not something to be alarmed about. Patients can resume their usual activities straight after having treatment, and many patients in fact have IPL Hair Removal during their lunch breaks, due to how efficient and safe it is.
What can I expect?
No IPL can claim to have achieved “permanent hair removal”, but medical grade IPL can achieve permanent hair “reduction” with approximately a 70% – 90% reduction in hair growth. These results are dependent on the individual and can be influenced by such things as skin type, hair color, and hormones
